Diseases such as asthma, COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), pneumonia, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis cause significant disability to individuals as well as placing a large burden on the health system. With one in four people affected by chronic lung disease, research into this group of diseases is a priority for government, health organisations and research bodies around the globe.
