Inspiration to LIWA

Lung disease is a common, disabling issue which requires ongoing commitment to the investigation of its causes, treatment and cure. Diseases such as asthma, COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis), pneumonia, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis cause significant disability to individuals as well as placing a large burden on the health system. With one in four people affected by chronic lung disease, research into this group of diseases is a priority for government, health organisations and research bodies around the globe.
