SARCOIDOSIS AND OTHER GRANULOMATOUS LUNG DISEASES PROJECT GRANTThis is a grant of $50,000 for one year which is available to support laboratory, clinical and epidemiological research into the cause, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Sarcoidosis and other Granulomatous lung diseases. Applications can be submitted by medical, allied health professionals, nurses, scientists, students and other individuals conducting research under LIWA’s auspices on alternate years and by similar individuals from any research organisation in Australia in the other year. In 2013 any Australian researcher may apply for the award. Applications for the grant need to be submitted by the nominated closing date using the specific guidelines provided here or which can alternatively by obtained from the LIWA administration. Grant applications will be assessed by an independent scientific subcommittee of the LIWA Board of Directors and the LIWA Board will make the final decision. Background to the GrantThe LIWA Sarcoidosis and other Granulomatous Diseases Grant has been made possible thanks to the generous support of an individual with an interest in seeing treatments for this disease advanced. A donation of $50,000 was received to support the project grant. This is an area of lung disease with a comparatively low profile and for which much research still needs to take place in order to better understand why it develops in some individuals and how its effects can be lessened.
